This Damned Band Hand to Hand

I’ve just gotten back from Phoenix Comicon, which was a brilliant combination of hugeness and intimacy, a proper and growing Comic Con with a dedicated volunteer ethos that reminded me of my absolute favourite events, such as CONvergence.  For instance, they audition and train panel moderators, something I haven’t seen anywhere else.  I realised after a while how much I’d needed a bit of work/holiday fun, in the middle of a huddle of my peers, and met so many new friends.  A major part of the weekend was hooking up with Dark Horse Comics and artist Tony Parker to talk about This Damned Band, at the DH panel, at signings, and at our tables, one to one.  I think a lot of people went away interested, which was very gratifying.

Firstly, here’s something very important, a form with which you can order This Damned Band #1 from your local comic shop. (Mind you, it’s entirely fine to just walk in and ask.  This form provides the Diamond Order Code, JUN150081, which, for your comic store, makes finding ordering details easier.)

Either save the above, or you can find a PDF version to download here:

We’ve been given a full page spread in Previews magazine, as you can see, courtesy of Bill Gordon…

Tony and I did an interview about TDB for Comic Book Resources, which should soon be joined by a few more.

There’s also a new interview with me up at the same site, talking about this summer’s Four Doctors comics event from Titan’s Doctor Who range.

And Doctor Who Comics Day, Titan’s enormous promotional effort on August 15th, now has its own Twitter, so you can keep up with all the news.

Finally, on the subject of interviews, I’ve done one for SciFiFantasyNetwork, dealing with many aspects of my work.  Also on that page, the chance to win a signed copy of my novel London Falling.  The question is, frankly, a bit easy.

As I often do, I’d like to direct your gaze to a few things friends of mine are doing.  In preparation for the imminent release of his new SF novel, Children of Time, Adrian Tchaikovsky is running, on his blog, a series of very short pieces featuring the same characters.

One of my favourite podcasts, Tea and Jeopardy, is taking part in Patrick Rothfuss’ Worldbuilders fundraiser, a charitable effort which makes it possible, for the first time, to order a t-shirt bearing the podcast’s logo, but only until June 8th! I’ve already ordered. This all came about as a result of Patrick’s own appearance on the podcast.

And finally, I’ve been lucky enough to have seen an advance copy of Si Spurrier and Jeff Stokely’s creator-owned comic The Spire. It’s about a very odd cop investigating a murder in a world worthy of, and reminiscent of, Miyazaki, a community with grumpy elderly cherub-things, mutants and royalty. Do check it out. Here’s The Spire’s own comic store ordering image…

Please do circulate the This Damned Band image far and wide.  As I’ve said before, a new title lives and dies on advance orders, which are much more important than purchases on the day of release.  We need to get the word out.  In fact, if you run a podcast, of any kind, and don’t mind me talking about TDB, then I’m happy to also talk about whatever else you fancy.  Get in touch via this site’s email address.

Having said that, I shall now succumb to my jetlag.  Cheers.
